Yes, both can be used to test for the CDH7 gene. My partner recently had an amniocentisis for this particular purpose as her first child has CHARGE. We received the results a couple of weeks ago, which showed that our unborn child doesn't have CHARGE.

She went for the CVS test initially, but due to the position of the womb it wasn't possible without risking damage to her intestines, hence the amnio. It has been a very worrying and stressful time for us over the last few weeks, as you might imagine.
